Welcome, web voyager! My name is Christopher Scalzi and I am a digital explorer. My quest started in 2011 when I was eleven. I had recently installed Minecraft on the family laptop and spent hours watching the endless Minecraft content YouTube had to offer. With the prospect of internet fame in front of me, I aspired to become a Minecraft Youtuber. Unfortunately, an under-specced laptop left such aspirations buffering. Trying to increase program FPS (Frames per Second) for a better viewer experience, I discovered Youtubers thenewboston, a coding guru, Marques Brownlee, an aspiring tech reviewer, and more. Then I stumbled upon an NCIX Tech Tips video that taught viewers how to build a desktop PC. A solution had uncovered itself. To pursue crafting stardom I needed more computational power—power that a desktop PC could provide! I poured over thousands of components on newegg.com, perused PC enthusiast forums, and compiled a list of compatible parts onto an excel spreadsheet. Finally, it was time. I worked up the courage to convince my parents that I was qualified and ready to build a computer! Remarkably, I got the go-ahead. I crafted a component list and purchased my first computer parts. After what felt like an eternity, the parts arrived. That week, I assembled my first desktop machine. Although it did not catalyze my Youtuber career, armed with an Intel Core i7 processor, Nvidia GTX 560-ti GPU, and a recently established broadband connection, a vast world of ones and zeros revealed itself to me.
Fast-forward 5.5 periods of Moore’s law progress (11 years), and I am proud to say on May 20th, 2022 I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering. At University I specialized in microelectronics, but projects at the interface of hardware and software are my passion. I look forward to leaving my mark on the digital era as I begin a career as a Firmware Engineer at Lockheed Martin in Syracuse, NY.
Below one will find a summary of my work experience as well as a collection of hand-selected projects. Feel free to explore as you navigate this website and you might uncover something special.
